The Minister, Meetings and AGM Update

ACAV is certainly ensuring the issue of rock climbing access remains on the Spring Street agenda as we see activities gain momentum this week. In recent weeks ACAV has actively engaged the media and directly approached the Hon Lily D’Ambrosio (Minister for the Environment) and subsequently there have been several positive climbing access stories in mainstream media. Concurrently, MP David Limbrick assisted us by asking a question to Minister D’Ambrosio in Parliament which positioned the argument at the forefront of the decision makers minds. As a result, ACAV have secured a meeting with Ministers D’Ambrosio’s Office (and other reps, incl the VCC) next Wednesday 05 June, and this is a key step forward.

Another busy week ahead for ACAV as we continue to pitch our efforts at the higher levels influencing policy development and implementation to ensure lasting and protected access to rock climbing in Victoria.  There is also the upcoming LTO (Licenced Tour Operators) meeting with Park Victoria on the 4th June, and you can read more detail about this meeting on our next post.

ACAV AGM / Executive Committee Nominations Open

The ACAV Annual General Meeting will be held in the coming weeks – members will be notified via email as soon as the date is confirmed.  We do apologise that the meeting has been pushed back from its initial date (30th May), however this will now allow more time to seek nominations and also provide updates from some key access meetings at the AGM.   Members at the AGM will vote in the new Executive Committee which will take ACAV forward in its work.

Any ACAV member can nominate themselves or another member (with that person’s consent) for any of the following positions:

  • 1 x President
  • 1 x Vice President
  • 1 x Treasurer
  • 1 x Secretary
  • Ordinary Member (multiple positions)

If you wish to nominate for a position or nominate another member, please click here. For more information on the nominations process please refer to Division 3 – Election of Committee members and tenure of office section in the ACAV Constitution.

Members Meeting report – Vote to Incorporate – 16th May 2019

Thank you to all our members and supporters who attended the Members Meeting held at Urban Climb Collingwood on Thursday 16th May 2019. The meeting was live streamed on Facebook and the PDF presentation is available on the documents tab of the ACAV website.  The ACAV interim committee provided an update on the access work this far and the next steps for our association. There was also overwhelming support for the motion to Incorporate ACAV which now paves the way for ACAV to stand as a legal body with climbing access as its endorsed remit. This is a very significant step for Victoria as no other club, organisation or association has specific purposes embedded within its rules of association to advocate and legally act on the sole issue of climbing access.  Access by climbers for climbers.
